How to fight your depression

Depression is often used word, but most of the time people take it lightly, not realizing that people who suffer from it should be taken very seriously because this is a condition that won’t go away on its own. The following tips are simple and pretty helpful for people who are feeling down and are struggling to fight their inner demons. If you suffer from depression or if you have anyone around you that needs help, here is how you can help.

1. Sleep

For people who suffer depression, sleeping can be a problem, especially at night, but there is nothing more important than your eight hours of good sleep. Even sleeping for an hour or two in the middle of the day would help a lot. When you calm your mind, it not only removes that worry or the phase of depression from your mind for a few hours, but also gives a positive vibe to the rest of the day.

Sleep

2. Appreciate little things in life

Often we forget about the little things that make life. Every person you come across is fighting battles of their own and you are not the only who may suffer from depression. But, little things like family lunch, listening to your favorite song, watching your favorite show are just those little things that are making you feel good. So, go for a walk, notice the birds’ singing, sing out loud on your favorite song, observe the sky. Look at the positive side. Be happy for the fact that life has given you so much so far and that there is so much left in it to experience.

Appreciate little things in life

3. Healthy diet

A good diet is essential to a healthy mind and that’s why good nutrition is very essential. When depressed, one’s health tends to go downhill. What you eat affects your brain, so it is important so stay healthy, and have a balanced diet that is filled with the needed vitamins, proteins, calcium and carbohydrates. Research indicates that omega-3 fatty acids, which are generally found in fish, can help fight depression with great ease.

Healthy diet

4. Go out

The human body is built to be active. It is not meant to be sitting in a chair 9 hours a day and on the couch for another 2-3 hours. That would make your body lethargic and you will feel nothing but lazy the entire time. Your body needs to do something and what can be better than going outside and getting some Vitamin D, courtesy of the sun. Our skin absorbs the sun and derives nutritional value from it.

Go out

5. Physical activity

Maybe working out is the least thing you wish to do when feel depressed, but giving your body activity would improve your entire condition. However, any kind of exercise isn’t beneficial. When done regularly, 30 minutes or more of vigorous exercise is proven to have improved people’s mood by a large scale. Use the treadmill regularly or go for that nature walk.

Physical activity

6. Change attitude

Depression affects your thoughts severely, making everything hopeless and like there is no way out. It is important to fight your own thoughts and try your best to think positive thoughts and notice the good things in life. Notice one good thing and then carry on the effort of noticing similar things.

Change attitude

7. Stop blaming yourself

This is the most simple and cheap tip to follow and the most important thing you can do when faced with that black hole called depression. The presence of guilt is something that depressed should try to fight off. It can easily get into the process of recovery and harm you more. Instead accept yourself and your life.

Stop blaming yourself

Speak out

If you feel that people aren’t listening to you or that you are not worth to listen to for some people, it’s time for you to realize that you don’t need these people. Search for the ones to whom you can express yourself. Also, don’t be afraid to seek professional help from therapist. Often, they can help you much better than your friends and family. Depression isn’t a joke, but a serious mental state that needs to be treated properly.

Speak out

Top 9 Ways to Lose Weight

For those who finally decided to do something about their weight, this would be a very useful article. Maybe you wonder why you can’t get rid of those few kilograms even though you go on and on with your diet. Sometimes diets don’t work because you are not picking the right diet for your body type. Eating organic food is not enough if you have negative mind, if you skip your daily activity or if once you finish your diet, you go back to eating junk food all over again. Read below several tips on how to lose weight successfully.

#1. No salt

When you are at the supermarket just pass by the aisle with potato chips and snacks that contain too much salt. They do taste great, but the amount of salt they contain is no good in your battle with the kilograms. Also, too much salt is terrible for your heart and the cellulite.

#2. Don’t skip your breakfast

Whoever told you that eating one meal a day is the best way to lose weight was wrong. Skipping breakfast is the worst thing you can do to your body, because it is the most important meal of the day, and if you have a reasonably rich breakfast (like a scrambled egg or a bowl of cereals) it would keep you full till lunch and you won’t think of food in between meals.

#3. Working out

Physical activity is crucial, but it won’t work unless you do. You can starve yourself for days and lose some weight but you would still look the same. That’s why because you are losing body mass and the fat remains there. So hit the gym, go out running or simply start doing a few light workouts at home. Once you set your rhythm you would never want to stop working out.

#4. Get rid of bad habits

You love your beer or cigarettes? Time to quit. Alcohol and cigarettes are only harming your health and that is not what you want. Even if you eat healthy and even if you work out, what is the point when you take your cigarette package and light one? Start slowly and once and for all quit your bad habits.

#5. Don’t buy unhealthy foods

This is a hard step if you have roommates or kids who will always crave some ice creams or candies. Some people say that it is silly to force others to have the same diet as you, but it won’t harm you or the people who live with you to eat healthy snacks. So instead to shop candies, chips, ice creams, fill the fridge with fruits and veggies, dried fruits and organic dairy products.

#6. Running

This is probably the most effective physical activity of all. No, this doesn’t mean that you have to go and run a marathon, but you can start running smaller routs in your neighborhood. You will notice how your body will strengthen up, you will lose some weight and you will feel more energized than ever.

#7. Eat smaller meals

If you still feel hungry after you had your lunch, don’t get more. You gave yourself enough food. Scientist say that the brain gets the impulse that your stomach is full a bit slow in comparison to other impulses (for pain for instance). That’s why you still feel hungry. Having less food on your plate is a good start, if you don’t wish to try strict diets that forbid almost every food you like.

#8. You can have your dessert

If you are eating more fruits and veggies, and less junk food and red meat, your body can take a chocolate bar. Don’t worry it will not harm your diet. For extra caution, you can eat dark chocolate that is really great for your health and is recommended as a good sweet.

#9. Forget about night snacks

We have all been there, craving food in the middle of the night. Just don’t do it. The diets can be hard but they are a test of your patience. If you feel like you can’t fall asleep if you don’t eat anything, get a glass of warm tea or a glass of milk (if you diet allows you to eat dairy products), but don’t indulge in chips, candies, sandwiches or midnight cooking of your favorite meals. Once you get used on this non-eating-after-midnight habit, you would be surprised how you don’t even think of food in that time of the night.

Watch As This Ultra Tiny (8sqm only) Room Transforms Into A Complete Home

Architects: Kitoko Studio
Location: Paris, France
Area: 8.0 sqm
Year: 2014
Photographs: Fabienne Delafraye

From the architect. Maid rooms in Paris have long been considered unattractive and secluded spaces in the beautiful Haussmann buildings.

First Floor Plan

Always located on the top level under the roof of these buildings, they are characterized by their small size, with rudimentary aesthetic interior spaces and common circulations difficult to access. It’s a “non architecture” within the beautiful Haussmann architecture.

© Fabienne Delafraye

Over time, the maid rooms have known different usages, therefore losing their original purpose and becoming attics / storage. Thereafter, the general increase in property prices has also generated a new consideration of these forgotten square meters and generated a renewed housing. This location under the roof which was considered unattractive became an additional property asset, offering features not exploited by their previous occupants: sunshine, no vis-à-vis, overlooking the rooftops of Paris and the possibility to create lofts combining several maid rooms.

© Fabienne Delafraye

It’s due to a lack of space and in anticipation of the coming of a future au pair they cannot receive directly in their apartment that our clients have entrusted us with the difficult task of arranging the 8sqm maid’s room. Despite the small area, the space had to be functional in order to sleep, and also to cook, eat, wash, work and store a maximum of items. The space should guarantee the independence of the future occupant.

Diagram 2

The architectural response we made in order to implement many different functions refers to the “concept of the Swiss Army knife.” The Swiss Army Knife is a simple knife but, by a game of sliding and folding, it can contain a multitude of tools in a very small object. Therefore, the new maid’s room is a modular transcription of such an object with elements of storage, a bed, a table, a wardrobe, a staircase, a kitchenette and a bathroom, all fully integrated within a large closet which can be unfolded according to the needs and changes the perception of space. Once all the elements are folded and stored in this “large closet”, it frees half of the area of the room.

© Fabienne Delafraye

The requirement of a unique multifunctional space has first been seen as a fairly complex constraint and, in the end, it became the real strength of the project.

7 Tips For Nailing Networking

Networking not your thing? Oh, well it’s about to be!

Related: 5 Reasons You Should Network With People Who AREN’T In Your Industry

Here are seven tips for nailing networking:

1. Stop being afraid to reach out to people.

Yes, it can be a little nerve-wracking to walk up to someone you don’t know and start a conversation out of the blue, but that’s what people do at networking events! Also, don’t be afraid to reach out to someone on LinkedIn or Twitter – two of my favorite ways to network with influencers!

2. Don’t just reach out to reach out – have a purpose.

Don’t just reach out to someone for no good reason. Have a reason – Reach out with a goal in mind. Do you think this person can share some valuable insight on your industry? Do you want to learn more about the company this person is working for?

3. Always be enthusiastic and respectful.

When you’re talking with someone, actually LISTEN to what he or she is saying. Don’t disrespect them by looking around the room, checking your phone, or zoning out. Remember, they’re taking the time to talk with you, the least you can do is show a little enthusiasm and respect.

4. Show them your personality.

Being professional doesn’t mean you should forget your personality. Your personality is what makes you stand out. People remember personality – Be yourself!

5. Ask about their goals.

What do they want to accomplish? What are their goals? Everyone loves talking about themselves – it’s an easy topic to jump into!

6. Offer value.

Before you ask, “What can you do for me?” you should ask, “What can I do for you?” Share a relevant article. Invite them to join an industry-specific group. Ask them how you can help them achieve their goals, and they will likely return the favor.

7. Check in.

Don’t just let your connections collect dust in your LinkedIn account! Check in with them every once and a while to see how they’re doing. It’s important to nurture your network – If you just reach out to someone asking for a favor after not talking with them for two years, they might not be very responsive. Check in!

Hope those tips help!
